Hatch Statement on President’s Health Law

Utah Senator Says, “It’s Time The President Come Clean And Tell The People Of Our Nation What The Real Costs And Consequences Are And The Enormous Problems They’ll Face.”

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following statement after President Obama hosted an event on his signature domestic policy achievement, the health care overhaul:

“The reality of ObamaCare doesn’t stand up to the promises the President’s made.  This ill-conceived law is pushing up the cost of insurance, is forcing employers to stop hiring or force full-time workers into part-time jobs, and raises over $1 trillion in taxes on millions of Americans to cover its budget-busting cost.  Furthermore, no manner of White House public relations push can beat back the law’s many fundamental flaws or that its implementation is turning out to be a disaster.  There’s no way the insurance exchanges will be fully operational in less than a year – causing mass confusion in every corner of our country.  What’s even more frustrating is that the White House continues to try to say that all is well with the law.  That’s a disservice to American people and their families who’ll have to live with ObamaCare -- live with the higher costs, the higher taxes and the mountains of red tape and regulations.  It’s time the President come clean and tell the people of our nation what the real costs and consequences are and the enormous problems they’ll face.”

NOTE:  Hatch has introduced legislation that would repeal the two central pillars of the Affordable Care Act, the employer and individual mandates, and has bipartisan legislation repealing the medical device tax that partially funds the law.
