Wyden Applauds Senate Confirmation of Tom Reeder to be PBGC Director

Former Finance Committee Staffer Confirmed by Voice Vote in Senate Thursday Evening

WASHINGTON –Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., applauded the Senate for confirming Tom Reeder to be director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). The Senate confirmed Reeder’s nomination by voice vote yesterday evening.

“I am pleased the Senate has taken swift and decisive action to confirm Tom Reeder,” Wyden said.  “Mr. Reeder will bring the leadership and experience PBGC needs as it takes on a number of daunting challenges while ensuring America’s workers receive the benefits they have earned.”

Reeder was most recently health care counsel at the Internal Revenue Service, a position he has held since March 2013.  Previously, Mr. Reeder was senior benefits counsel on the Senate Finance Committee staff from 2009 to 2013.  From 2000 to 2009, he served in numerous capacities in the Office of Tax Policy at the Department of the Treasury, including benefits tax counsel, deputy benefits tax counsel, associate benefits tax counsel, and attorney advisor.  Mr. Reeder received a B.A., B.S. Ed., M.B.A., and J.D. from the University of Texas.
