Baucus and Camp Plan Silicon Valley Stop on Tax Reform Tour
Tax-Writing Chairmen Will Visit High Tech Innovators to Hear Concerns about Broken Tax Code
Washington - Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) announced that on Monday, August 19 and Tuesday, August 20 they will visit two separate technology companies in San Francisco and the Silicon Valley area. The West Coast trip is the third stop in a series of trips across the nation so the chairmen of the two tax-writing committees can hear directly from the American people about how to spark a more prosperous economy and make today’s broken tax code fairer for families and job creators. The focus of the California trip will be how a simpler and fairer tax code can help spur innovation and boost America’s economy.

The two chairmen have been travelling the country getting input and feedback from the American people on the nation’s tax system. They began their nationwide tax reform tour in Minnesota’s twin cities, where they met with workers and executives at 3M as well as the owner of a family-owned bakery. The tour next stopped in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, where Baucus and Camp toured a pair of small businesses and heard about the challenges they face in dealing with the tax code. While in Pennsylvania, they also met with an individual taxpayer who shared his story on their web site TaxReform.gov.
“America’s tax code is inefficient, outdated, and overly complex. It is stifling innovation and holding back America’s economic growth,” Baucus and Camp said in a joint statement. “We have a chance to fix the broken code so more jobs are created and paychecks get bigger. It is a challenge we are ready to take on. Tax reform can fuel new research and development. It can boost the economy, create jobs, and make U.S. businesses more competitive at home and in the global marketplace. Most of all, it can provide a real shot in the arm that America needs in a struggling economy.”
