Re: Baucus Appointment to the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) issued the following comment today after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced Baucus’s appointment to the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. The Commission was created by President Obama to develop recommendations for reducing the national deficits and debt.
From Chairman Baucus:
“When I was back home last week, one of the top issues Montanans had on their minds was the need to tighten our fiscal belts and get federal spending under control. America’s deficit is a serious challenge to our global economic competitiveness and it is a challenge we need to address head on. Health care reform is a critical first step to bringing down our national debt and strengthening ourlong-term economic security, which is why passing health care reform this year is so essential.”
