Finance Committee Announces Markup of Audit & Appeal Fairness, Integrity, and Reforms in Medicare Act of 2015

WASHINGTON – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) today announced a committee markup of an original bill coauthored with Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) to improve the Medicare audit and appeals process.  The bill, titled the Audit & Appeal Fairness, Integrity, and Reforms in Medicare (AFIRM) Act of 2015, will be marked up by the committee on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at 10 a.m. in Dirksen 215.

“Increased Medicare payment appeals from a range of Medicare providers and suppliers has resulted in a substantial backlog, causing financial and administrative problems that sometimes last years,” Hatch and Wyden said.  “This legislation is designed to improve the appeals process at HHS while upholding the integrity of the audit process so that providers and beneficiaries are not indefinitely left in limbo.  We look forward to a constructive markup on this common sense, bipartisan legislation.”

The Chairman’s mark can be found here.
