Hatch, Wyden Announce Finance Committee Hearing on CHIP Funding Reauthorization

WASHINGTON – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) will convene a hearing on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, to discuss the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The hearing, “The Children’s Health Insurance Program: the Path Forward” will take place at 10 a.m. in Room 215 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

“CHIP has been vital to the health and well-being of children across the country, helping to ensure access to quality and affordable health care to families with limited means,” said Hatch. “By bringing together those most familiar with CHIP, this hearing will allow members to learn about the current state of the program, which has long enjoyed strong bipartisan support. I look forward to continuing to work with members on the Committee and the administration to ensure continued funding and uninterrupted services for CHIP.”

“The Children’s Health Insurance Program provides families around the country with the peace of mind that their children will have quality, affordable health care,” Wyden said. “Congress needs to uphold its promise to families by committing to a strong, bipartisan, and timely extension of CHIP funding. I am glad members of the Finance Committee will have an opportunity to focus on CHIP and the need for swift action to maintain and strengthen this critical health program.”

The witnesses at Thursday’s hearing will be:

  • Ms. Leanna George, mother of CHIP recipient, Johnston County, North Carolina;

  • Dr. Anne L. Schwartz, Executive Director, Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission, Washington, D.C.; and
