Baucus Statement on Signing of Military Tax Relief an Important Achievement on Veteran's Day

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -- U.S. Senator Max Baucus issued the following statement today uponthe President's signing of the Military Family Tax Relief Act:

"As our country pauses this day to honor the men and women who have served ourcountry and defended our nation throughout the generations, I'm proud to see the Military FamilyTax Relief Act signed into law today.

As members of our armed forces put their lives on the line each day in Iraq and in combatzones across the globe, it is fitting that we enact a law that will increase payments to familieswhen a member of the military dies in the line of duty, will eliminate taxes on military child carebenefits, will assist National Guard and Reservists with costs relating to service, and will expandmembership for veterans organizations, among other provisions.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Grassley and I introduced this important bill manymonths ago and it is a significant achievement to finally see it signed into law today. Ourmilitary personnel will finally have access to the important tax relief provisions our bill provides. This bill is one small way we're saying thank you for everything our brave military men andwomen give to our country every day."
