Wyden Statement on Proposed “Short-Term” Junk Insurance Rule

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement on the Trump administration’s proposed rule expanding the availability of junk, “short-term” insurance plans:

“This proposed rule is all about promoting junk health insurance, and people who get conned into buying it are going to find they’re on their own when they come down with an illness or injury. Bottom line, this is a green light to discriminate against Americans with pre-existing conditions that’s going to make quality health insurance more expensive and less accessible.

“What Americans prioritize in health insurance are guarantees for people with pre-existing conditions, strong consumer protections, and affordable care when you need it, but the Trump agenda prioritizes junk insurance sold by scam artists.”
