Hatch on GAO Report Detailing Billions in Duplicative, Wasteful Spending; Urges Action to Reduce Spending

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, today called a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report released by his colleague U.S. Senator Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) more evidence that there is more than enough fat and waste in the federal government that could be eliminated to slash billions in Washington spending and said it’s time to start significant spending reductions:

“Washington and efficiency aren’t two words that exactly go together.  This report illustrates that there’s more than enough fat to cut off Washington’s bloated bureaucracy.  For the future of our children and grandchildren, we have to cut spending in meaningful ways,” said Hatch.  “After digging their heels in opposition, I’m glad Senate Democrats have seen the writing on the wall - that the American people want the spending spree that’s added $3.5 trillion in debt since this White House took office to stop.  It’s long past time we move forward with significant spending reductions to force Washington to start living within its means.”
