Wyden Announces Tax Leadership Team

WASHINGTON – Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today announced his new tax leadership team for the Committee. Together Victor Fleischer and Tiffany Smith will co-lead tax reform efforts.

“I’m thrilled that two of the top tax pros are teaming up to lead our efforts to radically simplify the tax code,” said Wyden. “Victor is a true outside thought leader in this space and Tiffany has been invaluable over the past years executing our agenda.”

Victor Fleischer, Chief Tax Counsel, joins Senate Finance from his current role as a Professor of Law at the University of San Diego where he teaches a wide range of tax courses. Over the course of his career he has also taught at Columbia University, UCLA, Georgetown University, University of Illinois, University of Colorado and NYU. Fleischer is well known for his New York Times column the “Standard Deduction” where he dives into modern day tax issues such as closing the carried interest loophole.

Tiffany Smith, Chief Tax Counsel, moves up from her role as Senior Tax Counsel, a position which she also held with Senator Max Baucus. She previously oversaw legislative efforts pertaining to international and corporate tax, tax exempt organizations and estate and gift taxes. Prior to working with the Senate Finance Committee, Smith worked with the Office of Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service.  Smith started her career with the City of Chicago, Office of Chief Counsel.
