Chairman Max Baucus: Statement on Senate Economic Stimulus Mark Up

Last week, President Bush challenged Congress to complete our work on this economic recovery plan by the end of this month. This is a time frame I completely agree with. Indeed it can be met if this Administration and Congress act quickly, jointly and responsibly on an economic recovery package that addresses the pressing needs of millions of out of work Americans by truly extending unemployment insurance, providing health care coverage, and creating jobs.

These goals are the challenges that face our nation today and millions of laid off Americans should expect nothing less than immediate help for those who need it most. I look forward to working with this Administration and my colleagues in Congress as we act on a much needed and sensible economic recovery plan in the most timely and expeditious manner possible.
