Cheers to a New Year and a New Tax Code

Senate Republicans Underscore Historic Achievement

Historic, comprehensive tax reform was the crowning achievement of Congress’ 2017 legislative accomplishments. Republican Senators rang in the New Year and new tax code cheering the tax overhaul in local papers across the country. Read more below:

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa)

Des Moines Register: Tax reform is a promise kept to Iowa families

“The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act incorporates common-sense reforms that lay the foundation for a better future. It provides immediate across-the-board tax relief and is an investment in America’s ongoing economic health and prosperity. It puts families first, giving help to the men and women who need it most.”

U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine)

Portland Press Herald: New tax law will benefit hardworking Mainers, not Washington elites

“The bottom line is that the weak economic growth and stagnant wages we have seen in recent years cannot be accepted as the new normal for our country. Hardworking Americans will soon see more money in their paychecks. In the future, Americans will continue to see more benefit from this law in the form of higher wages.”

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas)

Waco Tribune-Herald: A look back at congressional accomplishments of 2017

“The week before Christmas, we completed comprehensive tax reform — a historic overhaul of the code and the first in over three decades. Importantly, the bill signed by the president repealed Obamacare’s individual mandate, a tax on poor and middle-income Americans. It also reduces taxes for all income brackets and boosts the standard deduction and child tax credit. It will allow businesses to add jobs, raise wages and re-invest in the United States from overseas.

U.S. Senator John Thune (R-S.D.)

Rapid City Journal: A year marked by accomplishments

“Tax reform will lower tax rates for all Americans and double the standard deduction and the child tax credit. Taxpayers will begin to see the benefits from these reforms in their paychecks early next year. We also repealed Obamacare’s unpopular individual mandate, which forced Americans to purchase a product they might not want or can’t afford.”

U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio)

Record Herald: Ohioans will benefit from tax reform

“After years of talk, research, and debate, Congress passed tax reform legislation that the president recently signed into law. I’m proud of the bill because I know it will make a real difference for the people of Ohio.”

U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-Ark.)

Newton County Times: America’s Economic Revival is Just Beginning

“First, it means hardworking Arkansans will keep more of their money in their own pockets. It nearly doubles the standard deduction, lowers rates and eliminates loopholes. But it also will help our economy build on the gains achieved over the past year. By permanently reducing the corporate tax rate, currently the highest in the developed world, we will make American businesses more competitive and keep well-paying jobs here at home.”

U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-Nev.)

Las Vegas Review-Journal: Republican Congress has plenty to show for a productive 2017

“I’ve made sure that Nevadans’ voices were heard by the administration and my colleagues. As a member of the tax-writing Senate Finance Committee who fought to get this bill over the finish line, I encourage all Nevadans to compare your paychecks today to the ones you’ll receive in February; they’re going to be bigger because our bill allows you to keep more of your hard-earned money.”

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W. Va.)

Charleston Gazette-Mail: Doing what's best for West Virginia

“After years of hearings and discussions and months of working through an open and transparent process, Congress passed comprehensive pro-growth tax reform legislation — delivering on a promise that will have enormous benefits for our country.”

U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.)

Coloradoan: Tax relief offers the economic boost Colorado communities seek

“Tax relief will make our business taxes competitive again and provide the economic boost communities across Colorado have been waiting for. It brings home the $2.5 trillion in foreign profits U.S. multinationals have abroad and levels the playing field so American companies will invest here at home — creating hundreds of thousands of jobs, driving up wages, and boosting America’s economy. In fact, the day the bill passed Congress we already started to see major U.S. companies announcing investments in American workers through higher wages and capital investments.”

U.S. Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.)

Montana Standard: Delivering tax cuts for Montanans

“It was an honor to vote in support of hardworking Montanans by voting for this tax cuts bill. I believe Montanans deserve more control over their hard-earned dollars. Montanans, not D.C. bureaucrats, know how to save money, raise wages and build a more prosperous Montana.”
