Crapo, Wyden Request Information on Recent Social Security Administration Court Filing

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) are requesting additional information from the Social Security Administration (SSA) regarding a recent court filing disclosing new information about the scope of the former Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) activities at the SSA.

"As Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Finance, which has sole Senate jurisdiction over the Social Security program, we take very seriously the SSA’s stewardship of any personally identifiable information (PII) in its purview,” wrote Crapo and Wyden. “The latest disclosures raise numerous questions about the scope of the then-DOGE Team’s activities, primarily during the first few months of 2025.”

In the letter to SSA Commissioner Frank Bisignano, Crapo and Wyden requested a prompt briefing on the activities of the then-DOGE Team, as well as information on:

  • What steps SSA will take to improve compliance with its data protection policies;
  • SSA’s current understanding of what, if any, data was shared with an outside organization;
  • How SSA will ensure adherence to its processes for establishing data sharing agreements; and
  • How SSA will ensure it can fully address future Congressional inquiries.
