Finance Committee Clears Treasury, HHS Nominations

WASHINGTON – The nominations of Michael Faulkender to be Treasury Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy and Elizabeth Darling to be Health and Human Services (HHS) Commissioner on Children, Youth, and Families today advanced out of the Finance Committee. Faulkender advanced by a vote 25-2 and Darling advanced unanimously. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) released the following statement:

“I am pleased that the Finance Committee did its part to advance the nominations of these two important positions. Dr. Faulkender will play a crucial role in analyzing and reporting on economic developments in the United States and across the globe – a particularly important position as we continue to see the ongoing benefits of the new tax law. He has had a notable career in academia and is ready to take on the job. And, with Mr. Darling’s broad range of federal, state and local government experience encouraging collaboration between government and community-based organizations, she is also up for the important task of overseeing critical child welfare agencies within HHS. I hope the Senate will act swiftly on their nominations so they can begin their important work without delay.”

An executive summary, including a breakdown of the vote, will be posted here.
