Finance Committee to Hold Hearing on High Drug Prices

WASHINGTONSenate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., will convene a hearing on Wednesday, March 16, to discuss the urgent need to address high drug prices facing American families and seniors in Medicare. The hearing, titled “Prescription Drug Price Inflation: An Urgent Need to Lower Drug Prices in Medicare,” will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Room 215 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

“Americans are clamoring for Congress to take action that will lower drug prices,” Wyden said. “This hearing is an opportunity for members to discuss how high drug prices have impacted seniors and families in their states and identify solutions. For my part, I will continue to push for legislation that will allow Medicare to negotiate lower prices, as well as other measures that have received bipartisan support like capping out-of-pocket costs for seniors, capping insulin costs, and creating a penalty for drug companies that raise prices faster than inflation.”

The witnesses at Wednesday’s hearing will be:

  • Rena M. Conti, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Markets, Public Policy and Law, Questrom School of Business, Boston University, Boston MA
  • Douglas Holtz-Eakin, Ph.D., President, American Action Forum, Washington, DC
