Hatch Announces Updates to Policy, Communications Staff

WASHINGTON – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) today announced staff updates including promoting Becky Cole to deputy staff director and a new communications team lineup: Nicole Hager will take on a new role as the committee’s acting communications director and Brigid Ueland will be promoted to deputy press secretary.

“Becky’s quick and comprehensive grasp of issues across the committee’s wide range of jurisdiction has been crucial since she joined us earlier this year,” Hatch said. “I am delighted to see her take on a larger role within this committee’s operation. Her leadership will be vital as the committee continues to carry out a robust policy agenda.”

Cole has served as the committee’s Policy Director since May, working on all of the committee’s jurisdictional issues. Before joining the Finance Committee, Becky previously served as chief economist for the Senate Budget Committee under Chairman Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.).

After joining the committee last May, Communications Director Katie (Niederee) Rosborough will be departing the committee. Prior to joining the committee, she served as communications director for U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) after working as his press secretary for several years and helping him get re-elected to the Senate in 2016. Prior to working on Capitol Hill, Rosborough was part of Dallas-based The Richards Group’s public relations practice.

“Katie joined the committee at a critical time — just before Congress and the administration turned our attention to the largest tax overhaul in 30 years,” Hatch said. “Since then, she’s helped navigate uncharted territory in trade policy and led promotion of significant wins in the health care space, including the longest-ever extension of the Children’s Health Insurance Program.”

Hatch continued, “While Katie will certainly be missed, Nicole and Brigid will continue to advance the Finance Committee’s agenda. Whether it’s nominations, examining the impact of tariffs on industries and communities or leading efforts to address the nation’s opioid crisis, Nicole and Brigid are well-equipped to take the helm.”

Hager joined the committee last August from the office of U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) where she served as deputy press secretary. Ueland previously interned for the committee before returning earlier this year to focus on policy and speech writing as well as assisting with day-to-day committee communications responsibilities.

Additionally, Hatch announced that Joshua Blume has been promoted to senior counsel. Blume has worked for the Finance Committee as a professional staff member for nearly three years and recently graduated from Georgetown University Law Center with a Juris Doctor degree. Blume previously worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce as well as Hatch’s personal office.

Blume, Hager and Cole will continue as part of Hatch’s senior team, which also includes Staff Director Jeff Wrase, Chief Tax Counsel Jennifer Acuña, Chief Trade Counsel Shane Warren, Health Policy Director Jennifer Kuskowski and Chief Oversight Counsel Chris Armstrong.
