Roth Statement on Tax Relief Benefits for U.S. Troops

WASHINGTON -- Senate Finance Committee Chairman William V. Roth, Jr. (R-DE) today released the following statement in response to President Clinton's announcement that he will issue an Executive Order designating the Kosovo area of operations as a "combat zone" for tax relief benefits for U.S. Troops.

"I am pleased that the President followed the lead of the Ways and Means Committee in granting tax benefits to our troops overseas," Roth stated.

"'Combat zone' designation will help U.S. soldiers by granting them tax relief and extending their tax filing deadlines.

"This is the very least we can do to assist them and show our appreciation for their sacrifices."
