Hatch Statement on Max Baucus Not Seeking Re-Election

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following statement today after Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) announced that he would not seek re-election:

“Max Baucus has a sign on his desk that says, ‘Montana Comes First,’ and he’s always served by putting the people and interests of Big Sky Country above all else.  Willing to work with Republicans and Democrats alike, he has worked to put forward solutions that he felt were best for his state and our country.  Max has always been a dear friend, and his decision to not seek re-election is a blow to the Senate. I know I’m not the only one of his colleagues who will miss his leadership when he departs this institution.”
