Hatch Statement on Obamacare Enrollment Discrepancies

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, today issued the following statement regarding reports from the AP that more than 1 in 4, or at least 2 million, Obamacare enrollees have data discrepancies:

“A 25 percent error rate is simply unacceptable when it comes to proper use of scarce taxpayer dollars.  Even worse, today’s announcement once again illustrates how the President’s bloated health care law has left American families and taxpayers in financial limbo.  HHS has a duty to ensure information for these individuals and families is thoroughly verified before the 90 day window closes. Failure to do this could result in crushing tax bills for American families next April.”

In a letter last week, Ranking Member Hatch joined Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Tom Coburn (R-OK), Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, in asking the HHS IG carefully examine recent reports that the government may be paying incorrect Obamacare subsidies as the IG prepares to submit a mandated report to Congress by July 1.

In June of 2013, Ranking Member Hatch wrote HHS & Treasury demanding answers to the ballooning costs of subsidized coverage.
