Wyden Blasts Trump’s Regressive Tariffs that Took Effect Today

Washington, D.C. — Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement as Trump’s sweeping, regressive tariffs took effect today:

“Trump has thrown new dead weight onto an American economy that’s already sinking under his backward economic policies. The management of these tariffs has been utterly chaotic, secretive and ripe for corruption as Trump and his advisors scheme and deal behind closed doors. Regardless of whether Trump still doesn’t know what tariffs are or is lying about them, he should never be forgiven for jacking up the cost of living by thousands of dollars per year after campaigning on a promise to bring prices down across the board.”
