Wyden Statement on Energy and Commerce Committee Reconciliation Bill
Washington, D.C. — Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement after Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee released legislative text for their reconciliation bill.
“Republicans have defied the will of the American public by proposing the largest Medicaid cut in history,” Wyden said. “Americans have been loud and clear: do not throw families off their health insurance and cut benefits like home care and mental health care in order to finance tax cuts for the wealthiest and big corporations. These cuts are going to do nothing to tackle waste, fraud and abuse - they are simply going to harm American kids, seniors, those with disabilities, and working families. This bill must not pass.”
Last week, Wyden released a report from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) that showed the federal savings from these policies will come exclusively from Americans losing their health insurance and benefits, and doctors and hospitals getting pay cuts, rather than waste, fraud and abuse.
