Wyden Statement on Whistleblower Report of Massive Data Breach at Social Security
Washington, D.C. — Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement after news reports indicated a whistleblower complaint is being investigated by the Social Security Office of the Inspector General regarding a DOGE software engineer removing the sensitive personal data of more than 500 million living and dead Americans from Social Security for their own purposes.
“These allegations describe one of the largest known data breaches in American history, perpetrated by Trump appointees for the explicit purpose of weaponizing Americans’ sensitive personal data for political gain,” Wyden said. “There must be a full public accounting of this breach at Social Security, including justice for anyone who committed or enabled criminal theft of Americans' data.”
