Hatch Statement on President Trump’s State of the Union Address

Utah Senator Says It’s Time To “…unite behind policies that will build on the accomplishment of historic tax reform and chart a course to ensure the long-term health and prosperity of America.”

WASHINGTON – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) issued the following statement regarding the policies President Trump discussed in his first State of the Union address:

“Tonight, the president reaffirmed his commitment to advancing smart, pro-growth policies that will further lift our great nation and increase opportunities for all Americans. With the largest rewrite of the U.S. tax code in more than 30 years on the books, America is now a more inviting place to do business, take home pay is increasing, and more families can better save for their future. Now is the time to build on this success.

“An infrastructure bill, if done right, could strengthen our outdated roads and bridges and increase access to high-paying jobs for more workers. And, a trade agenda focused on pursuing strong trade agreements and resolving some of the most serious problems our international trading partners, like China, pose for American job creators and workers will help to further grow our economy here at home. While we certainly have our work cut out for us this year, I look forward to working with the president to unite behind policies that will build on the accomplishment of historic tax reform and chart a course to ensure the long-term health and prosperity of America.”

The Senate Finance Committee has the largest jurisdiction in either House of Congress, overseeing more than 50 percent of the federal budget and legislates on matters involving taxation, international trade, health care and entitlement programs.
