Wyden: Republicans Vote for Trump’s Tariffs and Higher Prices, Instead of Supporting American Jobs and Families
Washington, D.C. – Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., excoriated the 49 Republican senators who today voted to keep in place Donald Trump’s astronomical tariffs on goods from nearly every country on earth. Wyden’s bipartisan bill with Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Sens. Tim Kaine, D-Va., Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., Peter Welch, D-Vt., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., failed on a 49-49 tie vote.
“In any sane world it would be a scandal that the vast majority of one political party would vote for a pointless tax on the American people, one that is hiking prices and destroying jobs, all to please one man,” Wyden said. “The only winner from Donald Trump’s trade chaos is China, which is scooping up markets and trading partners that Trump has driven away. This vote represents a new low for the Republican party.”
