Ahead of RFK Jr. Appearance Before Finance Committee, Wyden Demands End to Secrecy and Stonewalling at HHS
As Chaos Continues, Finance Democrats Await Responses to Hundreds of Questions to Federal Health Agencies
Washington, D.C. – Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today called on the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to fulfill his promise of radical transparency and provide information requested by members of the Finance Committee that have been met with silence or inadequate responses. Wyden highlights Kennedy’s abject failure to meet his fundamental responsibility to truthfully and effectively communicate with the American people as the leader of the nation’s premier health agency.
“After the mass firings and resignations of respected senior scientists and public servants at CDC over the last 24 hours, it is more imperative than ever that Kennedy answer to the public and their representatives about the chaos, confusion, and harm his actions are inflicting on American families,” Wyden said. “Contrary to his promises of radical transparency, federal health agencies have been shrouded in secrecy and misinformation with no accountability to the public or Congress. Amid the largest cuts to American health care in history, Kennedy’s radical secrecy is setting up the nation for a health calamity.”
Today, the Committee announced that Kennedy will appear to testify on Donald Trump’s health care agenda next week, on Thursday, September 4.
The letter lists more than 30 letters sent to the HHS, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and other agencies under Kennedy’s purview. The inquiries seek vital information that the public is deeply concerned about, including vaccine standards, the impact of major cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, and widespread conflicts of interest that create conditions for grift and corruption.
