Baucus Hails Quick House Action on Senate's Katrina Compromise

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont.), Ranking Member on the Senate Finance Committee, today praised quick action by the House of Representatives to pass Senate compromise legislation providing tax relief to individuals, businesses and communities hit by Hurricane Katrina and other storms this year. Baucus helped to complete Senate negotiations on the Katrina tax relief bill this morning, and called on the House to waste no time agreeing to passage.

“I’m glad the House acted so quickly to seal the deal on tax relief for the Gulf Coast. It would have been Congressional malpractice to wait one more day to get this done. The President needs to put pen to paper as soon as possible and get these important tax provisions into law. The sooner the people, businesses and communities affected by the hurricane get the help they need, the sooner real rebuilding can start.”
