Hatch on Senate Vote on President’s Stimulus Proposal

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following statement on the Senate vote to proceed to the President’s $447 billion stimulus measure:

“Given the weak state of our economy, it’s no wonder Senators on both sides of the aisle have significant concerns with the President’s second stimulus that’s paid for with permanent tax hikes on small businesses, families and individuals.  More spending, more taxes, and bigger government isn’t what the American people want.  We need a different approach that promotes real job creation and economic growth by liberating the American people from the yoke of government that’s dragging down the ingenuity and entrepreneurship of our nation.”
