Republican Cuts Continue to Gut Americans’ Health Care
November Report From Democratic Health Care Leaders Shows Continued Harm to Hospitals, Patients, and Health Care Workers
Washington, D.C. – Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and House Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone Jr., D-N.J., today released the latest monthly installment of a report detailing how Republicans’ rushed Big Ugly Bill has destabilized American health care by slashing more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). According to the Congressional Budget Office, those draconian health care cuts will terminate health insurance for roughly 15 million Americans.
The report also highlights the impact of congressional Republicans’ refusal to extend ACA tax credits that expire at the end of the year - higher health insurance costs for Americans nationwide, with premiums doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling. These sky-high prices will go into effect in January unless congressional Republicans agree to extend the ACA credits.
“After forcing the largest health care cuts in American history, Republicans are content to watch our health care costs rise through the roof while access to care erodes at an accelerated pace,” Wyden said. “Every month, health providers are shutting down critical services and whole communities are left without medical options. It’s time to put a stop to Trumpcare so communities aren’t left behind by these steep cuts.”
“This report underscores just how bad the health care affordability crisis is for millions of Americans,” Pallone said. “People are losing their health care coverage, hospitals are closing, and premiums are skyrocketing with many families facing monthly health care bills that are set to double and triple starting next month. It’s time for Republicans to pull their heads out of the sand and work with Democrats to extend the Affordable Care Act enhanced tax credits to help lower costs for people.”
While Republicans claim their bill infuses resources into rural health care, the members’ report underscores how every month, more hospitals, including in rural communities, are shutting down, clinics are closing, workers are being laid off, services are being cancelled, and families are paying higher out-of-pocket costs.

Hospitals, clinics, and other essential services are closing their doors. Each day, patients are losing lifeline care because of Republicans’ disastrous actions, forcing hospitals, clinics, and other essential services, like maternity care, to shut down.
-
November 5, 2025: Centra Southside Community Hospital in rural Farmville, VA, will end its labor and delivery services in December. With the closure, pregnant patients in the region will now have to travel about an hour to Lynchburg for care.
-
November 7, 2025: A Philadelphia hospital announced it will close its ICU and cancer center, due to financial strains.
-
-
Essential workers are taking pay cuts or losing their jobs altogether. Republicans are driving frontline workers out of a paycheck while their patients lose access to care.
-
November 11, 2025: East Adams Rural Hospital in Ritzville, Washington, laid off 108 employees, citing “severe financial difficulties.”
-
November 19, 2025: Providence Health System announced layoffs of 296 people in Washington State and 150 across Oregon, citing Medicaid cuts as the reason for these workforce reductions.

Americans are shouldering higher health care costs. If Republicans fail to extend the ACA tax credits, millions of Americans will face skyrocketing health care premiums. Thanks to the Republican bill, families will be forced to choose between paying higher out-of-pocket costs or forgoing the health care they need.
-
November 11, 2025: Floridians living with HIV, who need medication daily to survive, are facing unaffordable premium increases due to the Republicans’ refusal to extend the ACA's enhanced premium tax credits.
-
November 20, 2025: The ACA enhanced premium tax credits help 470,000 Alabamians afford health care. Republican inaction on these tax credits will lead some Alabamians to see their monthly premiums nearly quadruple.
-
Wyden and Pallone have led the way in opposing Trump and Republicans’ Big Ugly bill, which drives up costs and puts health care further out of reach for Americans nationwide. Last month, Wyden released a report outlining the impact of Republican health care policies on Americans' health care that took place in October.
