Wyden Statement on the Nomination of Judy Shelton to the Federal Reserve

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s decision to file cloture on Judy Shelton’s nomination to the Federal Reserve:

“Leader McConnell’s out-of-the-blue move to confirm Judy Shelton must be called out for what it is—an effort to sabotage what little economic recovery we have by installing an unqualified, political pick at the Federal Reserve. Her ideas are so wacky and outdated, giving her authority over the dollar would be like putting a medieval barber in charge of the CDC. Shelton’s views are so extreme, Senate Republicans have long refused to confirm her. Senate Republicans now see an opportunity to return to the old austerity playbook, so they are moving to get her in place with a sense of urgency they have never shown for getting economic relief to American families. The top priority for McConnell should be addressing the pending expiration of unemployment benefits for 13 million Americans so they can pay rent on January 1, not rushing this partisan nominee onto the Federal Reserve.”
