Hatch Statement on President Trump’s Intent to Nominate Preston Rutledge to Lead Employee Benefits Security Administration

SALT LAKE CITY – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) issued the following statement today after President Trump announced his intent to nominate Preston Rutledge to serve as Assistant Secretary of Labor for the Employee Benefits Security Administration:

“For the past six and a half years, Preston has been a trusted and loyal advisor working to develop smart solutions to address a variety of challenges within our pension and tax systems,” Hatch said. “He’s put forward innovative ideas to effectively tackle our nation’s pension issues and worked to update the tax code to help ensure more Americans are financially equipped to pay for their healthcare or save for retirement. Even more, Preston understands the importance of working across to aisle to advance policies. While his thoughtful counsel at the committee will certainly be missed, President Trump couldn’t have made a stronger pick to lead the Employee Benefits Security Administration. I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure his fair and swift confirmation.”

Rutledge is Senior Tax & Benefits Counsel to the Senate Finance Committee. Previously, he worked as a Tax Law Specialist for the IRS.
