Hatch Statement on Latest Job Numbers

Hatch Statement on Latest Job Numbers

SALT LAKE CITY – U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following statement today after the monthly unemployment numbers were released for May:

“Leading economic indicators over the past week coupled with these latest job numbers demonstrate that our economy is not rebounding like the American people had hoped and the President has promised.  More burdensome and costly regulations, more deficit spending, and more Washington control are not the answers.   It’s time for a new approach where Washington gets out of the way to let entrepreneurs and the private sector create the jobs and growth that will take our economy out of this severe economic downturn.

“The White House has told the American people that the three long-delayed trade agreements with Korea, Colombia and Panama will increase U.S. exports by $13 billion a year and create tens of thousands of much-needed jobs – all without adding to our sky-high deficits.  The urgency of these agreements could not be clearer. The question remains, with our unemployment rate this high why won’t the White House act on them?”
